Trieste System
Science - Technology - Development
The "Trieste System" is a unique network of scientific institutions that focuses on the challenging goal of mantaining and fostering scientific communities as a necessary prerequisite for sustainable development in the developing world. It provides valuable insights and links to a broad range of scientific institutions.
The Trieste System's enduring strength is derived from the international institutions that serve as the basis of its worldwide reputation:
- - the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP)
- - the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS)
- - the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB)
- - the International Centre for Science and High Technology (ICS)
- - and the InterAcademy Panel on International Issues (IAP).
But the system's diverse strengths also depend on national, regional and local scientific institutions that add to the breadth and texture of its expertise:
- - the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA)
- - the AREA Science Park, which houses the ELETTRA Synchrotron Light Facility and a host of national research laboratories and private firms
- - and the University of Trieste.
