Education:
Hotel and Catering Management HND-HCIMA, Ealing College, United Kingdom, 1973 to 1977. Teaching certificate and other relevant courses. In 1985, followed an intergovernmental training course organized by Italy, designed for government managers, for the programming of training activity modules.
Biography:
Following her studies in the United Kingdom, Ms Photiou worked in Cyprus as Head Receptionist for two years. She then taught for a year at the International Catering School of Nicosia.
Thereafter, for 3 years, she was the Personnel and Training Manager of a first class Hotel in Limassol, Cyprus.
In 1982, she was employed by the Government of Cyprus at the International Catering School of Nicosia, as Instructor in Front Office and Professional Ethics. She also became responsible for the programming of the training activities for the Cyprus Hotel Industry.
In 1987 Ms Photiou moved to Italy, where she was employed for 10 years by firms that managed the Guest Houses for ICTP. She started first as Head receptionist and then became Manager of the two ICTP Guest Houses. In 1997 Ms Photiou joined ICTP as Housing Supervisor.
Responsibility:
Responsible for all accommodation services: internal (guest houses) and external (hotels and private accommodation), guesthouse management, and catering services at the Centre. This includes the supervision and coordination of:
- Housing and hospitality services;
- Guest House receptions services;
- Maintenance of the Guest Houses, including liaison with the property owners;
- Cleaning of the Guest Houses, which is performed by an external company;
- Catering Services, which is provided by external catering firm(s) that operate(s) the cafeterias and bars at ICTP.
